Hiker Injured in 80 Foot Fall Above Eaton Canyon
AMRT Members and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Air 5 Helitac Team responded to a distress call reporting a severely injured hiker who plunged approximately 80 feet from a rock cliff near the Eaton Canyon Waterfall shortly after 5 p.m. The Air 5 crew extracted the male victim and transported him to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.
The injured male was hiking in Eaton Canyon with a group of nine people. One other group member sustained minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.
AMRT Members Rescue 5 Youths Stranded on Mountain Top Above El Prieto
Altadena Mountain Rescue Team members rescued five youths from a steep mountain top high above El Prieto Trail shortly before 11 p.m. The youths started hiking at about 3:30 p.m., climbed up a steep ravine and found themselves in trouble after sunset. Stranded on a steep, loose slope in the darkness, the boys called for help using a cell phone.
AMRT members targeted the approximate location of the group and were able to climb to their aid and escort the group down to safety. There were no injuries.

Helitac Training at Henninger Flats
Today AMRT members were trained on all aspects of helicopter operations from Sheriff's Department AIR-5 personnel. Members received information on helicopter safety and participated in winch and rappelling training exercises in order to maintain their skills in readiness for demanding helicopter operations.

AMRT Members Aid Injured Road Cyclist

Altadena Mountain Rescue team members rushed to the aid of a female road cyclist who was injured in a crash at the intersection of North Altadena Drive and Crescent Drive.
Team members were en route to the Altadena Sheriff's Station after training in Eaton Canyon when they were flagged down by a motorist.
AMRT members, all of whom are Emergency Medical Technicians, tended to the cyclist until paramedics arrived on scene.
The victim was taken to Huntington Memorial Hospital where she was treated for various injuries.
High Line Training at Eaton Canyon Waterfall

Hikers visiting Eaton Canyon Falls were treated to a thrilling demonstration of the Altadena Mountain Rescue team's high line rescue system. Team members set up the high line rope rescue system, which spans 290 feet from beyond the top of the waterfall, down to the canyon bottom.
The team simulated rescues by lowering team mates from the top of the falls down to rescuers in the bottom of the canyon.
Eaton Canyon, located at 1750 N. Altadena Drive, is one of the busiest outdoor recreational areas in Los Angeles.
Mountain Rescue Team Members Walk Kids to School

Altadena Mountain Rescue Team Members celebrated "Walk to School Days" with students at Franklin Elementary School in Altadena by acting as crossing guards at street crossings and talking to students about how to walk to school safely.AMRT team members taught students how to "stop, look and listen" before stepping into the crosswalk. The event, a safety campaign hosted by Pasadena Unified School District, took place from 7 a.m. until 8:30 a.m.
AMRT Members Aid in Search for Suicidal Male

Altadena Mountain Rescue Team Members assisted Altadena Sheriffs Deputies in the search for a 52-year old adult male who family members believed to be suicidal following a violent domestic altercation with his sister.
The search team located the individual in his vehicle, parked in a parking lot near the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Paramedics treated the man's self-inflicted lacerations and transported him to Huntington Memorial Hospital where he was treated.
He was later booked on charges of attempted murder in the assault on his sister.
Mother and Two Sons Rescued in Eaton Canyon

A 45 year-old mother and her two young sons, ages 6 and 8, became trapped on a steep mountainside in the Eaton Canyon area and had to be rescued by L.A. Sheriff's Deputies and Altadena Mountain Rescue Team members. The trio went off trail in search of a waterfall when they found themselves stranded on a very steep, loose slope.
L.A. County Sheriff's Air 5 rescue helicopter crew members, were able to lift them from their unstable perch and lower them to safety in the canyon bottom where AMRT members provided them with water and transported them to their vehicle in the Eaton Canyon Parking area.

Celebrating the Colorado Street Bridge
AMRT members came out in full-force for the Celebration on the Colorado Street Bridge on July 10, 2010. The event, celebrating the heritage of the famous bridge built in 1913, is presented by Pasadena Heritage and features live music, gourmet food and handcrafted beers and wines.
AMRT members participated by demonstrating various rescue systems , sharing search and rescue stories with community members and, of course, doing their part to support Pasadena Heritage by partaking in the tasty treats offered at the event. Approximately 4,0000 to 5,000 people attend the event each year.
