Altadena Mountain Rescue Team members ventured north for the Mountain Rescue Association's 2010 Spring Conference June 17-20, where they polished their mountaineering skills with fellow mountain rescue volunteers from all over the country.
Altadena crew members practiced crevasse rescue and ice climbing techniques on Mendenhall Glacier and participated in avalanche science and rescue programs, rescue system building and helicopter safety.
While snow and ice conditions are rare in the local mountains around Altadena, the AMRT crew frequently assists other mountain rescue agencies located in higher mountainous regions during the winter. Therefore, it is paramount for all AMRT members to acquire and maintain a wide variety of specialized mountaineering skills so they can be ready for any and all conditions.
