Altadena Mountain Rescue Team members visited Altadena Christian Children's Center on Thursday, July 8, to teach the children some basic, kid-friendly wilderness safety tips. The team's visit coincided with the school's "mountain" education program, which concluded with a visit to Millard Campground the following weekend.
Rescue team members instructed the youngsters to stay close to their teachers while they're in the mountains, but if they do find themselves separated from their group, they should pick a tree and stand next to it until their teachers and/or rescuers find them. The kids also got to try on team member's rescue backpacks and were treated to a brief lift in one of the team's rescue litters.
